Flexible Packaging Recycling – Progress and outlook

Europe is accelerating the post-consumer recycling of film packaging. With the new PPWR, which came into force on February 11, 2025, the focus is now on design-for-recycling criteria, higher recycling rates by 2030, and future recycled content requirements. The market is currently dominated by a shift to PE and PP monomaterials, reduced barriers, and more easily separable printing and adhesive systems that comply with the updated , Recyglass an other guidelines. At the same time, projects such as CEFLEX and digital watermarks (HolyGrail 2.0) are creating new sorting paths for films that are intended to improve the quality of recycled materials.
