With the PPWR targets for 2030, the use of recycled materials will become mandatory even for materials intended for food contact; however, mechanical recycling in this sector often faces regulatory constraints. In this Inno-Talk, we examine the current situation in the EU regarding the recognition of the mass balance method (‘Fuel Use Exempt’) and analyse whether chemical recycling capacities in Europe will be expanded in time to effectively close the gap in legally compliant food-grade packaging.
